Bios Updates for AMILO Notebook Pi 1556, Xi 1526, Pa 1538, X

Postby Birgit » Wed Oct 29, 2008 11:51

Some Fujitsu Siemens Computers notebooks are experiencing long-term faults in their graphics displays. This is due to faulty graphics cards and chipsets. The problem can be remedied by replacing the graphics card or motherboard.

Two days ago while I was copying a cd using my Amilo 1556Pi I heared a click and the notebook shuts down. The notebook was on a ZALMAN notebook cooler. This had happened a lot of times (the sudden shut down) but this time I had to make a clean Windows XP Installation because it wouldn't start up again. Last year I replaced the burned out Nvidia Ge Force Go 7600 graphic card under warranty. Maybe I was "a lucky one". I was advised that this occured because of overheating. I had also read in several forums that this is a common problen in these notebooks. Though the notebook was always used in a room with airconditioning and on a cooler, occasionally when ever it wanted click, and off, even after replacing the graphic card. Checking this site after reinstaling XP I found out that there was a Bios update wich I installed and I think it works. I see that the Nvidia temparture is 50 degrees C. when it was never under 68C. in the same room temperature.

COMMENTS

1) By the way the last e-mail I received by Fujitsu Siemens was: No updates available for your product. Why?
2) Why did it take Fujitsu Siemens more than two years to realise that faulty graphic cards and chipsets were installed in these notebooks and gave now (I hope so) a solution ?
3) How many people have purchased these notebooks, have there graphic cards burned and have to pay now about 400 Euros to get them repaired?
4) I think that Fujitsu Siemens must recall and replace all these notebooks or at least repair them at no cost becuse the notebooks were delivered with faulty graphic cards, chipset as they admit.

hi...
well i'm experiencing the symptoms with my pi 1556, and i'm afraid that damage has been done, but my problem is with your F S supplier or F S its self in the UAE, they are not showing any kind of corporation as my notebook has NOT been updated by them or even as far as i knew they don't have any idea about the issue until i found it by myself, and i followed up with them trying to know how come there is a factory defect and i'm not noticed about it, who's responsibility is this, and on what basis they are speaking of warranty if the product is FACTORY DEFECTED, i'm sorry to say that i am totally un happy with their service, my notebook is down for almost 4 weeks and remaining in their hands for 2 weeks inclusive, and all personal data and work on it, i am totally cornered....

hi
By my oppinion there is a problem with new bios. I have upgraded it but I had to downgrade back to 1.25.The fan had nonsnece behavior. It ran at middle speed without GPU load. But when I was playing a game The fan speeded down to the lowest speed. I realy dont see the point of this behavior. :(

and sorry for my poor english

have a nice day

I have noticed that the fan has a weird behavior too, but I must admit that the temperature has fallen sufficiently
By the way how did you downgrade?

Luckily I had my geforce replaced for free - but the performance and heat issues haven't changed at all. I would like to kick the designer for making the cooling WAY underdimensioned. Now it only works as a word processing computer with an overheating semi-gaming graphics card.

My Amilo Pi 1556 notebook is suffering from exact this problem.

1. Where can I download the latest BIOS? The link in the top post doesn't work, and I can't find it anywhere on the Fujitsu Siemens site (all I find is this which describes the same issue, but doesn't contain any relevant download link!)

2. If the problem was due to faulty chips in the first place, why are they only replaced on machines that are still in warranty? This is just a matter of FS shipping wrong hardware, and they should replace them all, warranty or not. It's not like everything was OK first, and went broken later on after the warranty period or something.

Thanks in advance.
