I contacted the Fujitsu warranty line yesterday.

:( - bad news is that they reckon the motherboard is faulty.

:) - good news is that is still within warranty - just! It expires 21 July, so just in time. I was told I can still purchase extended 2 year warranty for GBP 175. I'm tempted as the laptop is just 1 year old, but £175 is quite a lot. I will probably go for it just in case I get a similar problem...

hi,

the same thing has happened to me!

AND its out of warranty as well!, only a month out a warranty. there is clearly something wrong with the motherboard they have chosen and i dont see why i should have to pay for thier mistakes!

Does anyone know what make/type the motherboard is so i can buy one and get it repaired becuase Siemens service prices are crazy.

Yep, same thing for me too. My xa1526 is exactly a year old and has same problem. I have sent it away for repair. The solution the tech guys sugested before I sent it away was:

remove power cable

remove battery

hold down the start button for 20 seconds

connect battery/power cable

start it up

Didnt work for me though! I nbthink it must be an overheating problem as my machine used to get very hot (prob melted some solder) as did the power supply unit.

What a pain eh?

I sure think it wasnt or is an overheating problem. I think something with the electricity , some charge , short circuit etc (blown up condensator). Cuz I left the first time as it started happening , the notebook running for 4 days straight but on lowest settings(have worked on my diploma), so it was really cool. And the second time after the mb change. It was off for a week , but didnt start as I came home.

Hi All

OK another lamb to the slaughter - black screen of death, no boot, just out of warranty, no sympathy from helpdesk.

It's quite obvious from reading the threads on this topic here and across Siemens' other European sites that they did not, ahem, "Make Sure " the Xa 1526 was fit for purpose. There is clearly a motherboard problem.

Please can we have an official comment on this from our forum moderator.

I for one intend to take this up with Trading standards in the UK and would like to hear from others who are similarly frustrated/inclined.

After 5 years with a Sony Vaio (which I am writing this on) I decided to give FS a chance because I've always rated Fujitsu hard disks and Siemens build decent power stations.

Reputations take years to build but can be lost overnight - so come on Siemens, own up to the problem and for the sake of your reputation do something about it.

Ok so I brought the notebook the third time for repair to the fsc guys. Its again the MB (the second time), the guy is cool repairing it, but he said its not the same thing. I thought MB failure is MB failure , but he said its not the same like b4. Yeah its not , first time the leds didnt do the bios boot seqeunce and the FAN didnt go into the slow mode. Call me naive but I thought you get a new MB if the old one is broken. But as he said to me , no . You get an old one (repaired one) . So here could be the problem. Since as you can see from this forum , the notebook (MB) "lives" for a year. So I expect that the "new" third MB is going down so fast as the 2 one b4 .

exactly same-bought, after year needed to change motherboard, now after another year when warranty runs out again needs repair! But I found, that sometimes it starts by pressing rec button on remote-crazy, I know, but whan crap like this happens and you need laptop for work, you try unbelievable things. Hope FS soon come up with some ideas on this, cuz people get angry allready with this problem

I bought my laptop from pc world, took a 3 year warranty, it was a good job too because in 3 years I had 2 new MB fitted because of the same problems which have been mentioned it does not give me much faith in the product.

I am yet another victim of this fault my Xa1526 Turion 64 X2 has died in just the same manner as those above have mentioned when only one year and four months old.

It is pretty obvious that the motherboard component of this laptop was not fit for purpose at point of sale which is covered in

Sale of Goods Act 1979.
Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982.
Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994.
The Sale and Supply of Goods to Consumers Regulations 2002.

I intend to contact Fujitsu Siemens regarding this obvious product defect to see if they will respond to it. They should be bound to repair or replace this product which suffers from a clear motherboard issue which causes failure of the motherboard after approximately one to one and a half years of use, which falls far short of the normal life expectancy of a laptop computer. Should they fail to respond I am considering taking legal action against them for selling a product which has a built in fault and was not fit for purpose at point of sale.

Well good luck and keep us posted. **** in Germany have had my laptop for 4 weeks now, can't tell me when I can have it back, just say that they don't have any motherboards in stock and only get them delivered "from time to time and that I must be patient". I kid you not, that is really what they said. I used to work for FJ in the UK and there is no way on earth I would ever buy another one of their products. They have no idea how to treat customers, and seeing as though they clearly don't give a damn about us, why should we give them our money?

Another victim of this failure.

I sent my Amilo Xa 1526 for repair and a few weeks later i got it back with a note saying the motherboard had been "adjusted"; it worked fine for a few days, then it started failing again.

I´ve sent it again for a motherboard change but I´m not very confident in getting a lasting solution...

As I read is a relatively common problem in several Fujitsu models and Fujitsu acknowledges that in their support web, so I can´t believe they can go over this and not giving back our money or a new model without that problem.

I´LL NEVER BUY A FUJITSU-SIEMENS NOTEBOOK AGAIN.

Well after 5 weeks of the same old crap FSC germany told me I could cancel through my dealer and get a percentage of my cash back (they would take off 3% per month that I had it at home - i.e. not including the time that they had it). This I quickly did. My dealer was sound about it, as apparently it happens quite a bit. I worked out how much I should get back in about 5 minutes and it's now 2 weeks later and these idiots still haven't confirmed with my dealer how much it is. I swear to god, they are trying to get rid of customers, because this is the shittiest customer service I have ever come across, and I'm living in Germany, where they specialise in poor service. This little git at the conflict management department actually had the nerve to tell me it could take another week. NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY ANYTHING FROM FUJITSU, AND I USED TO WORK FOR THEM IN THE UK.

this is absolutely shocking customer service, and it appears to be being completely ignored. I rang customer service today, knowing exactly what was wrong with my laptop after discovering multiple threads regarding the dead laptops. and they completely fobbed me off. laptops now on ebay, going for 10£ and 3p. Im concerned that such a large manufacture doesn't seem to care. Im out of warranty and im not paying the 175£+ to fix it. Never again will i buy from fujitsu.

what really worries me is that Fijutsu Siemens has now nearly completed its takeover of UK Military IT, and if it goes anything like there laptops, national security is at risk

I too have this problem - 2 motherboards need replacing in just over 1 year. 1st time it was in warranty. 2nd time out of warranty and Siemens have quoted me just under £400 to fix it!

I've been advised to write to the company I bought it under the Supply of Good (Implied terms) Act 1973, as it's clearly a faulty product.

Siemens have been very, very unhelpful when pointed to the fact that this is clearly a faulty product. Everyone's posts here support that. Shame as I am really put off PC laptops now, and would probably buy a Mac next time.

If anyone's had any luck getting their money back, do let me know how!
