[Si1520] More than 2GB RAM

Postby exp » Wed Mar 19, 2008 1:55

Does anyone know if I can use more than 2GB of RAM on the Amilo SI1520? The manual says only 2GB. But can't I use 2GB DIMMs?

Thanks

If the manual says 2gb is the limit, then that is it. I went on the cruical web site and it confirms the limit to be 2GB. The limit is set by what the MOBO can handle (bios), so does not matter what size modules you stick in. Sorry for the bad news! :(
I keep saying it, I'M NO EXPERT!

Hi,

just wanted to correct the information!

Yes it is correct, that the manual states that it supports up to 2 x 1 GB PC2-5300 (total 2 GB). This is fortunately wrong. :0)

I have an AMILO SI 1520, and have just upgraded it with a 2 GB PC-5300 module. So I have now a total of 2.5 GB (I exchanged one of the two 512 MB modules). I can't see any reason that it shouldn't support up to 4 GB, but i use 32 bit systems, so 2.5 is fine with me. (Intel actually says that it should support 4 GB)

Everything works perfectly, I use both Vista, and Linux, and both operating systems report 2.5 GB of RAM.

So don't hesitate, and don't trust the manuals all the time. :0)

The reason why the manual says 2x1GB is beqause at the time the manual was written, the computer wasn't tested with 2GB modules, so they could only promise mamimum of 2GB. Same applies for other models.
