I did upgrade to 2 gig of RAM this past week actually and it does seem to have helped a lot. Reboots are a lot faster.

Additionally, the flickering in my case was caused by the white plastic connector becoming, well, unconnected from the display. In a nutshell, unscrew the bottom screws and push the connector on again (I've had to do this twice in a month now).

And yeah, the on-board video is a cruel joke, along with the speaker...

My mother's laptop is suffering from the same problem, flickering screen, sometimes very dim and hardly readable. The warranty has expired so I have offered to repair it for her in 6 weeks time when I go on holiday to see her.

I will need to get my hands on all the necessary parts for the Amilo LA1703 model, which would be cable, baclkight and the inverter board before I go (we only see each other once a year as we live 2,000 miles apart).

Does anyone know the part numbers for the forementioned components (or compatible components)?

Also, any suggestions on places on the web to buy these components would be much appreciated!

Many thanks,
