[Amilo X] 4 GB RAM in Xi 1546/1547

Postby migx » Wed May 09, 2007 10:19

Has anybody successfully installed 4 GB RAM in 1546/47/54 ? There appears to be contradictionary information in the marketing material - at least for the 1546/47: some technical specifications say a max. of 4GB is possible (as does the user manual), whereas in others the maximum is listed as 2GB.

In any event, I've tried installing 4 GB (2 x DDRII-667, PC2-5300) but it doesn't work: the machine hangs on startup and after a while a single beep occurs. Installing a single 2 GB SODIMM does work, while a combination of 1 GB and 2 GB SODIMMs does not work either.

The BIOS in my machine is 1.18. I have installed v. 1.22 from the xi1554 BIOS but it still doesn't work. So basically my question is whether a future BIOS/chipset driver will be able to support 4GB and if so, when this driver will be available ?

I don't know if this will work but you could try to download the chipset driver from Intel.

This is only me guessing, but i think its worth a try.
If you need ATI drivers for XP or Vista, try driverheavens driver modder.

I appreciate your answer, but I guess it wouldn't work since it's a BIOS issue (BIOS won't recognize the memory). I assume the chipset driver won't load until after the BIOS has started.

The chips are manufactured by Corsair and do correspond with the listed requirements (DDRII-667, PC2-5300), so I would find it hard to believe that alternative brands would work - but you never know !

In any event I'm waiting for the 2nd line support to come back with an answer.

corsair memory is something special not no name generic ram and exeptional quality

IF the 2Gb is recognized by bios and working definitely the slots on amilo xi 1547/46 supports 2gb modules and maybe need simply bios update

i was thinking of buying Kingston value ram series ddr2 667 modules which are on pair with corsair*maybe even better " and at least is kingston !!!!but obviously must wait for solution to see my book with 4gb ram running

And the support is nowere on this forum .Fujitsu just gathered their customers on this forum and watching by side all the time with hands in pocket!!!!!

disapointed!!!!!

Yes you're right. I even put the question to Tech Support a week ago - still no answer. It's absolutely incredible that no one from FSC is able to answer such a basic question.
