[Amilo L] Windows problem

Postby dwhatmough » Sat Mar 10, 2007 19:04

Hi
,

I have an Amilo L6825. I purchased it from PC World in the UK in 2004. It came with Windows XP Home edition and it has the verification sticker on the back. Last year the hard disk failed and i had to get a new one installed. When i got it back they had reinstalled windows but it was the professional edition. I didnt think much about it at the time but now i have encountered a few problems in that SP2 will not install etc. etc. and i am worried that there might be problems if i try and upgrade to vista for example.

Does this sound like a problem?

If so is it possible for me to get a copy of Windows Home to reinstall??

Thanks in advance!

D

you should've received a Win XP home OEM disk upon the purchase of the laptop. sometimes it is marked as recovery disk. you can reinstall Windows using that CD.

Ok, i have found the recovery CD. When it starts it tells me that it cannot upgrade from XP Professional to XP Home and so i will need to do a full installation and that i may loose files - what files will i loose? Will i loose all my programs and files - will i need to format the hard disk??

Thanks!

You will have to format the drive as part of the clean install process. But before that burn to disk all your data. If you dont have the driver disk you also got with the laptop. go to the FS web site and download all avialable drivers, and also burn to disk. When you format you will loose everything [asuming you havn't got a partitioned drive]. During istall choose the full format not quick format...... 8)
