Hmm....i guess its not the driver's problem.....The fan is silent just after it comes out of standby and the temp is ~40°C......then it starts going at max, but the temp stays at °60C.....guess the new aero is too much for the old 6800Go :(

It doesnt say "Designed for Windows XP" for nothing on the laptop i guess :?

That's not aero issue. This laptop's BIOS uses Windows ACPI instead of proper ACPI specs and does not provide standard fan control to OS. See this TT: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=134354 I sent letter today to tech.support regarding this issue, if it's possible, please send letter regarding Vista as well to technical.support@fujitsu-siemens.com

Hi all,

I had this problem on my 1437G, with Vista. Fan would run at full speed no matter what the CPU load was.

I managed to fix it by use RMClock http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml

Used this to manually set different clocks to PID settings and also to undervolt the CPU which is always a good thing :) Runs quite and cooler now.

Could be worth a try on ur laptops.

Good luck. si

Hi mega,

This article explains how to undervolt your laptop using RMClock (and yes normal version is completely free). I recommend undervolting any laptop (what ever the OS, it just makes things cooler and quieter! (and longer battery life)).

Here's another guide...

http://www.notebookforums.com/thread70943.html

On windows XP i using Notebook Hardware Control, to control speed and voltage settings.

However this does not work on vista (yet, version coming out soon apparently). That's why I'm using RMClock in vista.

I'll need to boot into vista to figure out how I changed the different PID settings so I can explain to you. brb

m3438g Fan Contro,

Postby rrana1 » Fri Apr 27, 2007 16:24

I have tried the undervolting as suggested in this topic. Unfortunately it didnt do the trick. The fan is consistently on - even in idle mode. I understand that vista requires alot of GPU/CPU power to efficiently run but unfortunately for the m3438g the fan is something that is not related to vista "power" demands as it is always on (even when the laptop is doing nothing). Having checked around a few forums, most notably forums which look at vista and Nvidia it is clear that F.S m3438g users are not the only ones with the "fan consistently on issue", many dell users and laptops with Nvidia PCI graphics cards (mobile) have the same issues as we have. I think it is incorrect to direct our frustrations at F.S - after all the m3438g was made for XP, instead all m3438g users should vent their frustrations at Nvidia since it is 100% the graphics drivers which are causing the consistently fan on issue. On XP it was possible to control the fan via the Nvidia Service process (set on automatic) for those who know this!. & Suprise suprise there is no process in the services menu on Vista which lets the user change the Nvidia driver service. My conclusions are that it is clearly a NVidia driver issue, as a member with an m3438g with an installed ATi graphics card does not have the same problem as m3438g with Nvidia have. I hope this clears a few things up with relation to m3438g users (other F.S laptops I wouldnt know!).

Please post replies if you beleive this is incorrect information. Your feedback would be appreciated.

Its graphic card issue. Fan switch ON after temp on card is 90°C and OFF after temp is lowered to 60-55°C (in my case). Its independ on CPU load or something other it seems. I sent email to FJS support and waiting for response.
