You can install lastest catalyst 7.4 with modtool http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool/
It worked for me.

Of course, there is not support from ATI nor FSC...

You should report the problem to the developer(s) of the mod tool.

* Catalyst Mobility 7.6 for Windows XP

It seems that ATI made it more difficult to download the latest driver by following the usual redirect link - it does not work anymore, or at least for now.

So to get the driver, perform the following:

1) Copy this address to your download manager (I use FlashGet):

http://www2.ati.com/drivers/7-6-mobile_xp_dd_ccc_enu_48643.exe

2) In case you are not able to download the driver by just placing the above link into the download manager, - please also place this referrer string into the download manager:

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

That's it.

Catalyst 7.7 can be downloaded from http://www.ati.com/online/mobilecatalyst/ now, although there are performance drops compared to version 7.6.

I can't use the Catalyst Mobility on my Amilo M 1424 with a Radeon 9700 SE in it. The installation says no ATI hardware could be found and will now exit. I don't get it...
Is there anything I can do about that? Thanks a lot

That worked perfectly :) Thanks a lot! But now my hardwork manager says I've got a Radeon 9500 in it instead of 9700. Anyway, I'll try and see if it's better or worse now.
Thanks again!

Catalyst 7.6 and 7.7 have several bugs and errors! such as artifacts and flickers. Ati also see it and will try to release catalyst 7.8 with bug fixes, so I advise you to use catalyst 7.5 nowodays :)

ATI Mobility Catalyst 7.8 can be downloaded here
If you need ATI drivers for XP or Vista, try driverheavens driver modder.

This post is not related directly to ATI drivers, but rather concerns improvement of gaming performance in Windows Vista, about which you can read in depth at this place.

The article does not provide links to the update, but I've searched for them and found them here:

Windows6.0-KB940105-x86.msu
Windows6.0-KB940105-x64.msu

Also be sure to have these Vista updates installed as well, which I believe are not being pushed through Windows Update (yet):

938194
938979

Concerning update 940105, somehow it failed to install on my machine, which was informed by the updater, and I do not why. Perhaps it's the reason why this update has not gone official yet, as there may be some issues with it.

Other two updates installed fine. The only game I play now is Civ4, but I haven't done any measurements before or after the updates. Civ4 ran fine before and so it does now :)
