Lifebook S6420 draining battery when shut down.

Postby matteob » Mon Nov 12, 2012 16:06

Hello I wonder if you can help me with an issue that is baffling me. I have just been given the above laptop from a friend and although it is a few years old it is a good little machine to use on the go. However it has one very irritating and confusing problem in that it is sucking juice out of the battery at about 15=20% a day when completely shut off. I thought this was a result of the old battery being weak so I bought a new battery and did the usual new battery calibration by fully charging and exhausting a few times. However the same drain problems are persisting to the extent that i now have had to remove the battery from the machine if I am not going to use it for a few days.

Can anyone tell me if this is usual and what could be the cause of a machine draining so much power when off. I know lith ions drain a bit when not used but this is excessive.

Hope someone can shed some light and thanks in advance.

Try in registry (regedit) local_machine\software\microsoft\windowsnt\current version\winlogon - PowerDownAfterShutdown = 1

Nope this has not made any difference at all. I changed the reg setting to one charged it up and left for a day. When I came back it had eaten 50% of the battery power when off. I am completely puzzled by this: is it a software or a hardware/electrical problem? Any help much appreciated and has anyone else suffered this?
