S6520 with Vista Ent: (1) sleep grayed out; (2) only 3 Gig

Postby AlexA » Wed Apr 22, 2009 14:27

Hi everyone,

I have a user with a Lifebook S Series S6520 with Vista Enterprise. She is encountering two separate issues:

(1) She cannot sleep her computer as this option is grayed out. I've Googled so much but haven't found anything {:-(. Is there a partiular driver update that needs to be done?

(2) She has 4 gigs of RAM (2x2 Gig) physically installed on her machine yet Vista only sees 3 Gigs (3060MB to be specific). Again lots of Googling but found nothing here {:-(. Any help here would be really appreciated.

Hi,

this is the german section of the forum, anyhow:
(1) You can enable/disable this mode only with an cli command.
Google will clearly show you: powercfg -h on (off for disabling)!
:!:
(2) Sorry, but I will not repeat all these things with 32bit OS, PAE, memory adressing and so on...
I cant imagine that you tried Google for this, there are a lot of entries for that.
Even SP1 for Vista does not use 4GB really, but should show them as installed.

So please ask Google again

Hello, looking further at the laptop, the reason for the No Sleep option is the lack of an updated graphics driver, currently the Windows driver is loaded for this, not the one belonging to the manufacturer.

The graphics adapter is called S3 Graphics Chrome 430 ULP. The driver did not come on the DVD.

Does anyone have a reliable link for downloading the driver for the above graphics adapater. Thanks
