lun setup in RAID 10

Postby phoogenboom » Thu Sep 25, 2008 14:12

Hi,

We have a SX88 installed with a vdisk of 8 disks. I want to know what happens when creating a volume. Is it divided evenly across all 8 disks or ???

What happens when I expand the vdisk with 2 disks. Are the currently configured volumes rearranged across the total disk space or do I just get new disk space on the 2 newly added luns?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Peter.

So if I understand correctly:
when creating a volume on a VDisk this volume is evenly distributed across the vdisk? However after expansion of the Vdisk the current volumes aren't redistributed, there will just be more space for example to expand the volume or create a new volume.

You say when a volume is big enough it will distributed across more spindles. Do you mean to say that a different physical spindle will be used when the physical disk is full or does the SX88 work with a certain block size after which a new block can/will be put on a different spindle?

Please reply in English. This is the English speaking form :)
