[P] (asus P5SD2-FM/S) with EAH 3850 graphics card???

Postby kedaing » Wed Jul 09, 2008 23:10

I'm having a BIG problem with my SCALEO P since I installed a new VGA card (ASUS EAH HD3850 smart/1Gb), It won't start up enymore. I already put a new power supply (500 Watts instead of 300W!), all the cables and connexions were made, but when i start my PC, it shuts immeadiatly down and will only restart in safe mode. In safe mode the HD3850 drivers won't install and so on... When i put back my old ATI X1300 VGA card, everything is back to normal with mediocre graphics quality. Dos anyone know a solution to this problem?? (whithout buying a new motherboard please)
Has it anything to do with the new PCI-e 2.0 standard (?), I was told the PCI-e 2.0 worked fine in the 1.1 PCI-e 16x slot. If its the BIOS, how to solve the problem?
The motherboard doesn't seem to exist on the ASUS site, i just suppose it was made exclusively for Fujitsu Siemens, but i could'nt find the product support of this specific motherboard either.

PCI-E 2.0 should be backwards compatible with PCI-E 1.1 so that should really be no issue. No graphics solutions today use that much bandwidth so it's not a bottleneck issue. If the problem is BIOS related you can flash the BIOS by downloading and applying one of the newer revisions that should be available at Fujitsu-Siemens Computers website. If you have onboard graphics, make sure that it is disabled in the BIOS.

You can also check and make sure that the power supply unit has been properly installed and connected. Additionally, I would like to mention that power efficiency is very important when it comes to power supply units (PSUs). Cheap and crappy PSUs with a power or rather peak output of 500 Watts generally have low power efficiency. In other words, they cannot deliver that kind of power continously. For example, a cheap 500 Watts PSU is comparable to a high-end 300~400 Watts PSU. That's why expensive power supply units may run graphics cards that require more power without breaking a sweat. Expensive PSUs are generally more heavy than cheap ones, and that's mainly due to the size of their capacitors. I don't know what brand and PSU you got, but it could very well be PSU related.

Dunno if this Thread is still Up to date, but... Un-Install the Drivers with a Removal Tool, don't install new ones until the new Card is in, then try it again. It maybe helps, graphic accelerator drivers are a serious thing, lol. :?

Anyways, i'm running a Quad Core System with a HD 3870 and a 400 W Supply, I absolutely wouldn't reffer to the PSU this time since the 3850 doesn't takes that much Power imo. It also could be possible that you sadly obtained a Broken card from the beginning on. If it doesn't works on your Computer, ask a Friend to test the Card out instead and see what happens. Could save alot of Time.

Hello, I'm having also a similary problem. I bought a Asus EAH3650 graphic card to replace my old Nvidia GeForce 6200 TC. My computer starts when the drivers are not installed but when they are installed my computer freeze on the load screen of Windows XP. My mothercard is a Asus P5SD1-FM2/S and I would like to know if you solved your problem.

Thank you to help me.

You should uninstall the graphics drivers from the add/remove programs, before you fit the new card.
Use anti virus, backup your data, use google.
POST BACK EVEN IF THE HELP DOESN'T HELP.

A Thank You would be nice if I have helped.

Hi,

You have posted a message about SCALEO P - ASUS P5SD2-FM/S.
I have the same model of Motherboard that was bought on e-bay.
2 days ago I tried unsuccessfully a Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 2.5GHz on it.
I can't download drivers or Bios bcs I do not have Serial#.
Please can somebody send me a recent BIOS upgrade?
I think that this is the only chance left to make my daughter's system working.
best regards,

ValentinPetrov,

Next time open a new thread.

On the following web page type "P5SD2-FM" into the full text search software box in the top right and it will give you a list of drivers and BIOS's for that MB: -
