[Pa 2540] With radeon x1700 fsc => shutdown

Postby Docalban » Mon Aug 27, 2007 22:36

Hello, I have a big trouble when I play games.
Graphique card became to hot, and after bip, decide to shutdown PC. Graphique card is not really known by ATI. It's a radeon x1700 fsc.
Even after a complete reinstallation. I could not play games. I tryed to under cloack the card, but it's all time the same thing: within 5 mn, after some "bip", pc is shuting down !
Some help would be really appreciate. Ati softwares are up to date (7-8-vista32-dd_ccc_wdm_enu_50974.exe), but I would like to play more than 5 minutes and without buying another graphic cards !

Hello Docalban,
I do not understand what "bip" is, do you mean some sort of alarm sounds after 5 minutes and then the computer shuts down ?
If this is the case are you sure that it is the graphics card that is overheating and not the cpu ?
What software did you use to establish that the problem lies with the graphics card ?

and did you overclocked it ? its posible if the core or mem is to high and making artifacts

The most obvious cause will be poor air circulation. case fans are cheep, so fit as many as you can. A must is a front case fan blowing into the case. And a rear one sucking air out. Have a good clean inside to get rid of any dust. It soon builds up on cpu, gpu fans. As has already been said, I agree it may be the cpu thats over heating. A new cpu fan and thermal paste will definatly drop the temp, as the stock cpu fan that comes with the machine, are always cheep and have poor performance. There is one last cause, it could be the power supply. Did you buy the graphics card and fit it yourself. If you did this could be the problem. New graphics cards suck large amount of power, and could be overwelming your psu.

Thanks Dave O good advice,
To add a (late) thought, not to mention an unlikely one (but happened to me once), is the CPU fan working ?

Hi! i will bumb this thread because i have the same problem with my scaleo pa 2540. The graphic card radeo x1700 FSC overheats and a beebing sound is heard from the computer. I had a look on the german forums and there was a topic about x1700 FSC graphic gard and its overheating problem with over 14 pages of people having same problem. I would like to know if there is a solution for this problem or not. If there isin't a solution i guess that the waranty wont cover for this kind of problems?

thanks in advance!!
