[Scaleo P] CPU UPGRADE

Postby tapabungo » Fri Jun 15, 2007 12:48

Hello all,

I bought a Scaleo P at the tail end of 2006. It has a Pentium 4, 3gig CPU. When I open the comp up it has An ASUS motherboard but when I run Everest it says the mobo manufacturer is Fujitsu?

The question I have is will this take a Dual Core?

Any hints or tips would be appreciated.

Thanks.

More informatrion needed.

1. Motherboard type (model number)

2. BIOS version.

3. Chipset type.

If you can supply this information I can tell you if you're dual core compatible.

Please note that 'dual core' is now a sweeping statement, there are differences between dual core AMD and Intel. There are even many types of dual core within the Intel stable.

If your system is Pentium 4, there is a chance it'll be Pentium D capable but unlikely it's Core 2 Duo ready.

come back to us with the information above and we'll see what advice can be given..

Please note that this information is offered 'as is'. I have put together this information after checking with the FS and Intel websites and knowledge bases.

First, see this link:

http://www.fujitsu-siemens.co.uk/rl/ser ... herboards/

Scroll down to the Asus section and you will see your mobo model at the very bottom of the list. It lists your chipset as Intel 915P.

Only motherboards that have Intel's 945G, 945P or more recent chipsets, or use Nvidia's nForce4 SLI for Intel chipset can run the dual-core Intel chips.

It looks as though you are limited to the pentium 4 processor family for now I'm afraid.

I hope this helps even though I hate to be the bearer of bad news..

You're more than welcome my friend.

There are some great deals on mobo's at the moment, if you discount Ebay and want to order components online try Micro Direct. Without doubt the best online retailer I have ever used:

http://www.microdirect.co.uk/home.aspx

If you're going the dual core route, evaluate a mobo thats Core 2 Duo capable. If your budget stretches to it, go for the E6600, it's the first Core 2 step up to 4mb cache and gives ripping performance.

Pentium D processors are already being phased out for mainstream desktop computers and, believe me, if you opt for the Core 2 Duo, you won't believe the performance of the higher end models.

Regards mate..

Good deals on Mobo's

I've used both the following, they are generally a bit cheaper than other online sites and service is reasonable;

http://www.eclipse-computers.co.uk
http://www.ebuyer.co.uk

I have had DOA from both but both were dealt with fine.
