[Scaleo 400] - 256MB RAM seen as 128 MB

Postby paulburke67 » Thu Feb 01, 2007 10:49

 I tried to upgrade the RAM in my SCALEO 400, the PC is still working perfectly but slow and I am passingit on to the kids to commence their education.

It had 1*128 PCI133MHz, I replaced this with 2*256 PCI 133MHz RAM modules but on booting the PC only sees a total of 256MB RAM. Testing proves it sees each of the 256MB moule as a 128 RAM Module, why?

I can think of two possible reasons

1, a CMOS setting but I dont konw how to get in to CMOS on the PC, any help there?
2, the PC needs a BIOS upgrade in order to use the 256MB modules, where can I get this?

Or is there something else I havenet tought of.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Paul

Hi!

Please, go to download manual for your motherboard: http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/Down ... uID=204572 (I found it through SCALEO 400 downloads)
Read pages 22-23 of it.
Seems like your motherboard has some issues like: "This motherboard does not support memory modules made up of
128 Mb chips or double sided x16 memory modules." So, check that your memory chips are compliant to the motherboard and that you installed them into right sockets.

If you are in doubt, then please send complete description of memory modules used (manufacturer, part number, ECC/non-ECC, number of chips of each memory module, single/two-sided) and motherboard sockets, which you inserted modules in.
