N560 USB Charging

Postby ron2464 » Mon Oct 19, 2009 13:19

Hi,

I have a Pocket LOOX N560, and until recently everything worked fine. If I charge the unit from the cradle the unit gets charged as expected. However, if I charge the unit from the USB (PC or in-car charger) the battery will eventually drain if the GPS is in use.

I have mixed/matched several different USB cables between the unit and the car charger/PC, but all tests end in the same way!

So, (a) has anybody come across this problem before, and (b) does anyone know if the unit is charged differently from the cradle/USB, other than the fact that the USB is a trickle charge?

Regards

Hi Ron,

charging via USB is different from charging via external charger. Charging via USB is using Pin 20 of the connector of the N560 and needs more time to fill the battery than charging via external charger which uses Pin 22-25. In the craddle you can use both methods.

Charging via USB is not a trickle charge. When i'm driving with my TomTom and use the Power Saving Option of the N560 the battery will be charged by car adapter until it is full.

Hi ic240,

Thanks for the response. I have since had another development, which is that I travelled about 2 miles in the car with the GPS in use, tapped the USB cable and the whole unit powered off. I turned the unit back on and it then stayed charged at 100% for the next 9hrs/500 miles, so it looks like there may be a problem with the connector inside the unit. Because of this I think my only option now is to contact Fujitsu to see what the repair cost will be. If it is too much, I'll have to think about getting a replacement :-(

I think Fujitsu doesn't repair your Loox and will tell you a service address.

Bytheway you can upgrade the memory to 128 MB. Here in Germany it costs 69 Euro combined with another repair by srsgmbh.de

Thanks again for the info.

I'll take a look at the site that you mentioned.
