Help for upgrade memory on Primergy RX2540 M1

Postby Antonio D'Affuso » Mon Dec 11, 2023 16:17

Hi all,
i have two Primergy RX2540 M1 with 2cpu's and 8x 8GB Ram everyone.
I would like to upgrade these servers and bought 4x 32GB banks.
I think that is better to install the 32GB banks on one server, and all the other 8GB banks on the other server.
So far, so good.
But i do not very understand how i have to populate the memory banks on servers.
Configuration is Independent Channel Mode, and iniatially on every server i have populate 1A/2A/3A+1B for first cpu and 1G/2G/3G+1H for the second cpu.
I think now i could:
- On the first server 1A/2A and 1G/2G with the 32GB banks
- On the other server 1A/2A/3A+1B/2B/3B+1D/2D and 1G/2G/3G+1H/2H/3H+1F/2F

Is this correct?
Can anyone indicate me a better guide to upgrade my servers?

Many Thanks in advance,
Antonio

Did you know about the Upgrade and Maintenance Manual, chapter 9.1.1.1 Population Rules, pg. 335ff?

To cut the story short (possibly...): Letters denote memory channels, and digits denote the number of the DIMM/socket on the (single letter-denoted) channel.

Generally, I'd suggest to distribute the modules on as many channels as possible, in order to allow for maximum throughput. As a consequence for four identical modules with two populated CPU sockets, 1A/1C/1E/1G (as depicted on pg. 336) appears way better than 1A/2A/1G/2G as you suggested.

Memory upgrade has gone well, many thanks!

If i can, i have another question on this two systems.
They have a couple of HD in Raid1.
We would like to add a couple of SSD, to be configured in Raid1, but i do not see any raccomended Fuijtsu configuration.

Is it possible to add SSD, to be configured in Raid1, on these systems?
If yes, could you tell me any suggested device?

Many Thanks,
Antonio D'Affuso
