a GPU for my TX2540?

Postby rewotsu » Tue Apr 18, 2023 13:36

Hi,

I have a TX2540 M1 with the 800w PSU and I would like to put in a power hungry GPU.

I noticed that the PSU has two additional 6pin connectors (but I don't have additional cables) that might provide power for the GPU (which requires two 8pin connectors).

With a little help from Google I found the "GFX | GPU cable kit" which, however, only was marketed for the M5. I ordered it anyway to have at least a look. There are quite a few cables in the box but one looks particularly promising: A3C40204168,C / A3C40204169,C / T26139-Y3946-V706 (it consists of two bunches of wires that have been tied together). On one side each of the two bunches ends in a 6pin connector

(named P1 and P3) and on the other side one bunch ends in an 8pin connector

(P2) and the other bunch ends in an 8pin connector (P4) from which a 6pin connector branches off

(P5).

So this could actually be what I am looking for. What concerns me, however, is that the color of the individual wires seems to switch between the connectors that seem to belong to the same bunch of wires: P1 and P3 have the yellow wires below and the black wires on top but P2 and P4 have the yellow wires on top and the black wires below. This makes me afraid that I might fry my GPU, if I put this in.

And there is yet another cable (A3C40229511,A / A3C40229512,A / T26139-Y4041-V16) which looks quite similar but with the difference that P2 branches off into a 6pin connector (P6) and P4 branches off into two 6pin connectors (P4 and P7). Here, the yellow and black wires do not seem to switch positions (the black wires are on top in all connectors) but in the 8pin connectors the "additional +2 pins" are just connected to each other via a wire loop and not with anything else. So while this looks lees prone to frying my card, it also looks a bit less capable of delivering the required power. Nevertheless, I am also hesitant to try this one because I just don't know enough about these cables and the GPU is just too expensive to risk.

Is there anyone who has successfully employed one of these cables (ideally in the same type of server) who can confirm that one of them is the right cable?

Thanks for your help!

Since I can only add three images to my post, I am posting the images for the second cable in this reply.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting Fujitsu!

Having TX2540 M1 you can install one of below two graphic cards only:

PY VGA Card 512MB PCI-e x1 (NVIDIA NVS 300)
PGRA CP NVS 1GB VGA PCIe x16 card / PGRA CP NVS 1GB LP VGA PCIe x16 card

Please see Released Adapters for PRIMERGY TX2540 M1

If you install other hardware items you are doing that on your own risk.
There is no support for such configuration from Fujitsu.

Hmm, right.

So what if I want to install another card?

It looks like my 800w PSU supports additional power lines - can we maybe establish that as a first step?

Thanks

As it was already mentioned, if you install GPU that was not approved for use with this server, you are doing that on your own risk and there is no support for such configuration from Fujitsu. Approved GPUs were already provided.

Yes, I understand that I am doing this at my own risk.

But to be doing it at my own risk, I need to be doing it in the first place.

So can anybody actually help me do it? Has anybody done it?

Thanks
