RX2540 Won't Boot

Postby Killian » Tue Apr 11, 2023 9:01

Morning all,

We have an RX2540 that just will not boot. The fans spin up, we don't see a POST screen, the fans spin down and the PSU lights blink.

The UID toggles blue with the press of a button but otherwise it ignores any input.

We've tried booting in emergency mode (holding UID with PSU's unplugged, plugging in and then powering up) and the fans kick in, POST screen pops up for a few seconds, fans spin down and dead again.

I've tried re-seating RAM, swapping out the PSUs with known working PSUs, etc.

I'm guessing it's a system board issue of some kind but is there anything else we can do locally to see if we can't breathe new life into it? It's an old appliance just acting as an offsite NAS (it's not actually my server, I'm working on it remotely on behalf of a colleague who keeps it at our site).

Anyone have any ideas they could suggest are worth a try?

I'm assuming it's this one;

YM7E001025

There's also;

Hello,
thank you for providing that information.

1. Please note that Linux/Unix is not supported on Lifebook E558
2. If any of options are missing, after user has made changes with external software, please first load BIOS defaults.
3. You may also change
Advanced -> Boot configurations -> CSM : Enabled
to allow backward compatibility for legacy boot options.
4. If system is in UEFI mode than bootable device will show on the list only when it's connected.

Kind regards,

Is this response intended for my post? Nothing has changed, I'm not sure what software they've been running on it but it's been working for a couple years until it shutdown and refuses to boot.

I can't get into the BIOS to make any changes, even when booting into emergency mode the POST screen barely pops up and then the whole server just shuts down a second later. Just tried it again and even in Emergency Mode the fans spin for about a second and then immediately die down.

Now I'm seeing a yellow triangle warning blinking when I try emergency mode boot.

You will probably need to log into the iRMC to view the event log, which may give some indication of what is the other problem.

Otherwise, it would be a case of changing the mainboard.
