BX400 S1 & BX2560M2 Network

Postby djmohr » Fri Jan 27, 2023 13:08

I've got a BX400 S1 chassis with 6x BX2560M2 blades. The chassis has 2x PY CB Eth Switch 10/40Gb 18/8+2.
If I log into the web interface of CB1 I can see that my blades are connect

CB2 however does not look the same

As you can see both CBs are connected to the network on ports 19-20, this is with 10GB fiber on each CB.
All 6 my blades show 4 NICs but only two are connected

Why would this be and would it be possible to connect more of the available ports to allow for higher throughput?

Has this recently stopped working? If so, what changes were made at that time?

Have you checked the switch configuration of CB2 to ensure that the ports are not shutdown?

In the servers, is the add-in card ethernet card in all servers in mezzanine one?

I started at the company last April, it's been like this since I started. When I remove one of the blades there's two cards installed that interface the blade with the chassis.

Have a look at the BX2560 M2 Upgrade and Maintenance Manual
https://support.ts.fujitsu.com/indexdownload.asp?Softwareguid=0498DE65-8D87-4A91-87BB-5D30DCD885A7

Section 7.1.1.3 Population rules for mezzanine cards (page 127) explains mezzanine slot numbering

Population rules for mezzanine cards in the BX400 (page 131) explains which connection blade the mezzanine cards connects to.

You still need to confirm that the ports of the network switch are enabled. (show running-config).

I'm assuming the mezzanine cards were installed correctly, I've attached a photo of the rear.

Somewhat confused as the original graphic shows port 19 & 20 as live on CB2, but your photograph shows no cables.

Is CB2 running in Switch mode or IBP mode?

To me is looks like the connection blade is not seeing the server blade (apart from #4) at all. Which suggests a physical issue - mezz card not seated properly, mezz cards faulty, problems with mid-plane, etc. A System Information Dump might gives some clues. Otherwise, it is down to basic engineering fault finding - e.g. moving blade 4 to other slots and other blades into slot 4 to see what does/doesn't work.

Apologies, 19-20 was disconnected as part of my troubleshooting, one of the steps I tried was connecting the fibers to port 24-25 on CB1, but this made no difference.
Seems like connecting anything to any other port other than ports 19-20 on CB1 results in nothing

Have you checked whether all the server blades have the same mezzanine card?

I have, few weeks ago I removed each blade to make sure all cards were seated properly
