I actually managed to connect a front panel to the connector that uses 2 USB ports. So on my mainboard I have
- port 1: 1 - VCC / +5V, 3 - USB- / data, 5 - USB+ / data, 7 - VSS / ground
- port 2: 2 - VCC / +5V, 4 - USB- / data, 6 - USB+ / data, 8 - VSS / ground
I don't know about pin 10. It might be ground for shielding. Of course, this use is off warranty, so use at your own risk
