RX2540 M2 SERVER NO RESPONSE

Postby anhvv » Fri Jul 23, 2021 11:47

Dear Experts,

We've PRIMERGY RX2540 M2 SERVER.
We've facing server hang with no response from server. Nothing on screen, no response to mouse/keyboard, no respond in front panel.
We've try to unseat all thing, reconnect and powered and unable to see anything from the server.
I need to examine System Event Log of the Management controller chip iRMC on the mainboard ( I forgot iRMC's IP Address, User name and Password to access this ).
I find a lot on the Internet and read FUJITSU Server PRIMERGY RX2540 M2 - Upgrade and Maintenance Manual and can not resolve.

Please guide me how to find the iRMC's IP address or reset iRMC to default to get log.

Server's information:
+ Product server: PRIMERGY RX2540 M2
+ Model: PR300D
+ System No: S26361-K1 566-V1 12
+ Serial number: MAC6C212600
+ MAC/iRMC: 90:1B:0E:DB:8B:CD

Light Indicator (on mainboard):
+ Standby Power (M) : yellow (ON)
+ Identification (A): blue (ON)
( Refer. to System Board D3289 Overview - A26361-D3289-Z140-1-7619 Edition 03/16)

Light Indication (on Front Panel)
+ Green ( power button)
+ Blue ( Indicator button)

Light Indication (Rear)
+ Blink : Power module

Hello,

- The serial number of your PRIMERGY box is something like YM6C + 6 digits
- Upon closing the box, and looking at its rear from the outside, you'll notice that the mainboard's blue LED can be recognized from there as well (you can switch it off by pressing the ID button on the front panel [just one of the possible options])
- You'll find the iRMC's IP address (and can change it there as well) in your machine's BIOS (enter by pressing F2 during start), then "Server Mgmt", and then "iRMC LAN Parameters Configuration" (second from bottom).
--> If you find these parameters set to DHCP, you'll need to consult your DHCP server for the iRMC's MAC address and the IP it assigned to that.

Hello,

well, regarding the serial no. issue, please see your initial post, and compare to your signature. I should have checked it myself as well, sorry. ;-)
And sorry again: I misinterpreted your text in assuming that the hang mentioned actually only occurs from time to time.

Then, according to the LED indicators, the machine was switched off while the pictures were taken.
Do the blue LEDs switch off when you press the ID button?
Does the green LED next to the iRMC chip flash (it's labeled "iRMC" on the mainboard), or does it remain dark all the time?

In normal operation, this LED should start flashing a few seconds after the power supplies get connected to mains (well, at least one of them...).

If this LED remains dark, and the blue LED cannot be managed by pressing the ID button, then this most important "integrated Remote Management Controller" chip does not work properly anymore. And you won't get any useful information from its logs, of course.

As you mentioned that you already disconnected mains, what is the initial startup sequence of the LEDs?

You could try to disconnect the server from mains again, press and hold down the ID button while reconnecting one of the power supplies, and see if the server can be switched on that way.

And you could thoroughly check the cabling connection between the front panel and the mainboard (just a rough but hopeful guess).

Dear me@work,

First of all, thank you very much for your advices. Do not worry about this.

"Do the blue LEDs switch off when you press the ID button? " ==> No, I try only push and hold :D ==> No respond.

"Does the green LED next to the iRMC chip flash (it's labeled "iRMC" on the mainboard), or does it remain dark all the time? " ==> I don't know which LED so only two LED on when connect to the source as my pictures.

"If this LED remains dark, and the blue LED cannot be managed by pressing the ID button, then this most important "integrated Remote Management Controller" chip does not work properly anymore. And you won't get any useful information from its logs, of course. " ==> Can you advise me how to turn on the server ? I unable to turn on the server :(

"You could try to disconnect the server from mains again, press and hold down the ID button while reconnecting one of the power supplies, and see if the server can be switched on that way." ==> Yes, I already try so no respond from the server :(

Best regards,

Anh Vu Van

Until the Fujitsu Forum Team comes up with an ultimate solution, I'll add a comment to the conversation so far, anyway:

Sorry once more, as it seems my last text was not precise:
The server won't switch on with the ID button hold procedure; you'd still need to press the Power On button below the horizontal green LED on the front panel to initiate Power On. By holding the ID button pressed during mains reconnect (and some 10 seconds after), the iRMC management chip should not start operation, which it actually does (or should do) as soon as the power connection is restored under normal and functional conditions.

Then, the iRMC LED is located here:
Screenshot 2021-07-26 131651.png
Screenshot 2021-07-26 131651.png (124.18 KiB) Viewed 9323 times

But as mentioned previously, it seems that something essential (here: the iRMC itself) is either broken or obstructed from working properly. This means that either the mainboard would need to be replaced, or the front panel (or any other device on the i²c management busses) and the cables, respectively.

I'm afraid that without actually testing some spares, it's hard to solve this issue from a distance.

Dear me@work,

Many thank with your advices.

I already do as you said, maybe mainboard or something else need replace.

If I have spare parts I will test to find problem. The big problem with me are:

Light Indicator (on mainboard):
+ Standby Power (M) : yellow (ON)
+ Identification (A): blue (ON)
( Refer. to System Board D3289 Overview - A26361-D3289-Z140-1-7619 Edition 03/16)

It make me confuse about Fujitsu's indicator when need replace the mainboard.

Once again, thank you for your active support.

Best regards,

Anh Vu Van

Hello,

Please disconnect the server from mains, wait ~ 60 seconds before connecting power cords to main hold ID button on the front pannel, plug AC cords to the server and try to Power it on.
This should boot the server in the emergency mode (iRMC disabled). Fans will rotate at maximum speed. (UMM - iRMC recovery procedure)

Please let me know if the server was able to boot.

Fujitsu's team in Vietnam already inform me maybe mainboard failure and need physical check after lockdown (Maybe after 15-Aug).
