Primergy TX140 S2 sensors appear to be wrong

Postby dazmatic » Mon Jul 19, 2021 9:10

Hi all

Recently picked up a used TX140 S2 and absolutely love it. Enterprise gear is just way better than consumer, even if it is 8 years old.

Got a weird issue with the unit though, the temperature sensors seem to be a bit mixed up (see attached)

There's no way that the CPU is at 30c, likewise the PSU at 60c when is using just 60w of power.

Ambient in the UK at the minute is warm, so I somehow think something is wrong here so I'd appreciate some assistance.

Thanks!

Well, hands up, I am a COMPLETE and UTTER donut.

So I figured out why the CPU temperature was so low.

It was because the Power Control Mode was set to Minimum Power. It wasn't until I checked the server logs I realised that there was CPU throttling going on which I thought was really weird.

It also meant that the power consumption barely crept above 60/70W even with drives spinning, thought it was just a really low power server.
It also tied in quite nicely as to why when running windows 10 VM in TrueNas, it was REALLY sluggish and slow.

Changed it back to OS Controlled and suddenly everything is running well, CPU temps have risen accordingly, windows 10 VM is flying along.
