Memory error 1F

Postby AAleXX » Thu Dec 17, 2020 23:47

Hi all,
after I change the cpus on my tx300s8 I got an error on dimm 1F. I didn't touch the memory modules, I see only a very little filament of thermal past on it, but now I got this error. I try swapping the modules between the others and I got always the error on dimm 1F. Is it a physical problem? I have to replace the board?

thanks

As the issue occurred after changing the CPU packages, did you already try to swap these two on the mainboard?

Because the memory controller these days is incorporated in the CPU module, it is well possible that your issues are caused by a faulty CPU.

If the error follows the CPU (i.e. the memory error changes to 1C), then it's a CPU problem, if the problem remains at 1F, it would rather be a CPU socket problem.
You might as well want to check the CPUs' contact balls and tiny socket springs during swap.

Bad luck...
After you ruled out the memory modules and the CPU packages, the persisting error is located on the mainboard, I think, like you already assumed in the beginning. It's either the DIMM socket, the CPU socket, or the connections between them. Perhaps something got broken during the initial CPU replacement...

While reading through your iRMC log excerpt, I stumbled across the timestamps depicted.
You actually did update your mainbord's BIOS to latest 1.22, and iRMC to 9.62F, didn't you?

Does the mainboard operate flawlessly between the reported error incidents, or do you switch it on only from time to time, like at the times that are listed in the log?

Yes, I update the bios to the latest available in the support site and I use the server only when I need it because it is too loud for an home use

thank you for your support
