TRAT CADDY TX1330M4 E-212

Postby metroplan » Fri Nov 29, 2019 8:32

buongiorno,
grazie

Sorry, I don't know Italian well, so the following is based on an automated translation:

- IF you actually bought your TX1330M4 in 2.5-inch configuration, it's probably best to return the box, and order the appropriate kit version (3.5 basic/medium/maximum) with disks installed.
- IF you bought the box for 3.5-inch disks already, then please be informed that Fujitsu does not sell the disk drive cages without disks installed, for you to populate your own (cheaper aquired) drives. They (almost) never did. The "cages" without disks in them only serve for proper airflow through the chassis. This question pops up frequently here in the forum...

IF I totally misunderstood what you were asking for, please hope for someone to respond in Italian language, or explain your request with more details.
Anyway, documentation can be found here.

thank you for you answer,
at this point I'm not sure of what they sell me.
My serial number is machine is s26361-k644-a644 and on the front I have four plastic caddy with this serial: A3C40156970. In my opinion i can't insert 2,5" or 3.5" disks in them.
These plastic acaddy are inserted in the rack(?)
(number WKK1119 / A3C40176093.G - 0000017283) that is connected to the sata 0-3 port on mainboard.
Could you help me to understand?
In case what should I do to use my 3.5" drives?
Or if I can't use them what should I do?
Thank
Sebastiano

The serial number of your machine is something like Yabcxxxxxx. "s26361-k644-a644" is more like type identifier, yet unknown to me.

From your description, I assume that you received a 3.5" kit version, with no (zero) disks installed, hence the four "plastic caddies" that I mentioned as "airflow optimizer".
You might want to compare the front view of your machine with the pictures depicted in the Upgrade and Maintenance Manual you can retrieve from the website I mentioned before.

Best idea would be to order disks from Fujitsu, as they come with the required frames.
Another option would be (of course unsupported) to order the cheapest disks, just to get the drive frame cages, and replace the disks with your models. Or try to find them somewhere in the depths of the "not so bright" web, perhaps from a damaged machine.

thank,
your answer as been very usefull. Now I understand.
I have the element at page 249-255 "4x 3.5-inch HDD extension box"
Pratically I need the frame at page 168 of the guide.
But It is not possible to buy it from Fujitsu without disks or somewhere else.
Could you confirm that if I find that element I could try to insert my own disks.
thank again
:D

Yes, from my own experience, I think I can confirm that you could try to insert your own disks.
Please note ALL the words, especially "could try to" ;-)
And, as I wrote before, you'll not get FTS's warranty for any later damage or unclear problem reasons, of course. Any future issues will always be caused by these inofficial disks...

It also depends on where you got your disks from. If they run on general purpose firmwares, and can get recognized in other "stock-market" machines as well, then these will probably work.

If they come fitted with a special firmware, like e.g. FTS Eternus disks, then these will most probably NOT work.

And please be aware, just in case, that SAS controllers can actually drive SATA disks, but not vice versa.
