A way to obtain name of BIOS chip is using flashrom

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install flashrom
flashrom -p internal -r backup.bin

During the process, name of chip should be displayed, if it is among 500+ known chips.

Unfortunately it is not available for operating system I use,
but hopefully someone could mention name of the chip displayed.

One can also upload backup.bin to virustotal.com, if curious if there are any rootkits on his computer.
virustotal.com is owned by google https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VirusTotal

flashrom also mentioned on their website.
