missing Numa node (node) and error with dmidecode in Primergy server

Postby wkevils » Mon Sep 04, 2017 15:37

I have PRIMERGY RX300 S5 server with
bios version 6.00 Rev. 1.12.2619. I run there Ubuntu 14.04.

Aftrer boot, I don't see node 0 in the Linux OS, only node 1:
ls -al /sys/devices/system/node
total 0
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 0 Sep 4 16:59 .
drwxr-xr-x 10 root root 0 Sep 1 19:38 ..
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Sep 4 16:59 has_cpu
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Sep 4 16:59 has_memory
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Sep 4 16:59 has_normal_memory
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 0 Sep 1 19:38 node1
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Sep 4 16:59 online
-r--r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Sep 4 16:59 possible
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 0 Sep 4 16:59 power
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4096 Sep 1 19:39 uevent

"lscpu" show only one Numa node, but *two* sockets (I think that usually
when there are two sockets there are two Numa nodes):

lscpu

I saw in the iRMC web interface, in the system components menu,
that DIMMS 1A, 1B and 1C are faulty so I disabled them in BIOS.
Dimms 2A,3A, 2B, 3B, 2C and 3C are empty. Still the results are the
same - I see only Numa "node1" after reboot, and also the dmidecode
error which I mentioned later on.

Apart from it I have good Dimms on 1D, 1E and 1F and
the following are empty:
2D,3D,2E,3E,2F,3F.

When I run
dmidecode
# dmidecode 2.12
SMBIOS 2.5 present.
94 structures occupying 3566 bytes.
Table at 0xBF7D9000.

Invalid entry length (0). DMI table is broken! Stop.

My questions are:
whey do I see "node1" and don't see "node0" ?
on a second Primergy server, I tried
diabaling 1A, 1B and 1C and I *do* see
node0 and node1 under
/sys/devices/system/node.

Regarding the "dmidecode" error message that I get - what can be the reason for it? How can I fix it ?
