RX600 S6 Ambient temp sensor

Postby kernelpanic » Mon May 22, 2017 11:55

Hi, we have a PRIMERGY RX600 S6 server
our problem is fan speed running at maximum 9600 rpm
in irmc s2 the problem is about the Ambient temp sensor (failed or absent)
so we change the indicated sensor but we still have the same issue, we also tested the failed sensor on another RX600 server and it works perfectly ( the sensor is good !)

now we conclude that the problem come from the fan controller motherbord and there is no way to replace it ( response from our local vendor)

i'm asking if there is any solution to reduce the fan speed manually from the bios, serverview, or irmc s2 interface ? ( our server room is always cooled by air conditioner )

please advise and thanks

Do you also get messages in the SEL like below?

 “Ambient': Temperature sensor not present”
 “I2C6': I2C Bus Disabled”
 “I2C6 error ratio': above warning level”
 “I2C6 error ratio': above critical level”

If so the part you need to replace is as follows...

Hi Mr davie and thanks for reply

as i said the sensor is good we already replaced this component (38016320 SNP:A3C40118069)
we also tested the supected device (ID TEMP) on other systems (tx200 s6 and rx600 s6) and it works fine !
it's all about the Front Panel Fan Board ( A3C40113964 ) it can't detect any ID TEMP

i'm just asking if there is any solution to reduce the fan speed manually from the bios, serverview, or irmc s2 interface ? in another way i just want to bypass the test for ambient temperature

thanks

You might want to try another attempt, and flash the machine's fimwares once again.
Since you already ruled out a physical issue with the ID/Temp board, this might be worth a check. I think to remember some communication flaws of all those internal components over all their busses...
And finally, did you already try without the LCD panel board attached?

Hi Mr [me@work] thanks for the answer.
i did a irmc s2 upgrade and a bios flash using usb drive method
i tried to disconnect the lcd pannel, the fan controller connector but with no chance

i think we should find a new Front Panel Fan Board

thanks
