Which SAS RAID controller do you have fitted? Have you DISABLED the onboard SATA controller? Have you routed the cables from the disk backplane to the plug in SAS card instead of the onboard controller?

Hi Davies

i use the LSI SAS 3000 board, the backplane cable is routed to this board.

the onboard SATA is enabled , i use one HD on to boot.

the LSI board bios startup do not detect the disc, and by the way, it's not possible to use the configuration utility.

You mean you can't get into the BIOS utility for the SAS card? CTRL-H?

You need to enable the option ROM for the PCI slot the card is fitted in. Also the onboard and plug in RAID don't always work well together. Onboard should be disabled when a card is fitted

if i do not plug a sata disk on the motherboard i cannot use the LSI bios utility.
If the sata is used (insteaed of the dvdrom drive) i can, but the disks attached to the SAS backsplane aren"t available and listed.

i only access them with windows's disk management utility.

so, i like to know how to make this SAS backplane bootable and by the way detect the SAS disk attached.

if you have any ideas

Davie already told you what needs to be done:
You need to enable the option ROM for the PCI slot the card is fitted in.

Onboard controller and plug-in card do NOT use the same configuration utility. The onboard controller's utility is entered with Ctrl-M, the plug-in card's utility gets started with Ctrl-H (but only if the controller's Option ROM is enabled in mainboard's BIOS, of course).

Only ENABLED Option ROMs will get included into boot options.

Hi fzalfa

I faced the same problem. We are using Primergy Rx200 s7 with Raid Ctrl SAS controller.
Windows 2008 r2 operation system was running on this server and it couldn't start after we restart it. we couldn't boot it from sas.
Can you tell me that how did you solve it? What was the configuration that you did in BIOS?

Thanks, i hope you can help me.

As I have said you need to ENABLE the option ROM for the PCI slot that you have the card in - this is under the ADVANCED tab in the F2 system BIOS

Alternatively you could just put the card in the recommended slot for the card and the correct slot will be already enabled by default :)

Hello Davie,

Yes, I enabled option ROM in BIOS. By default, 1 PCI slot was enabled and other 3 were empty in PCI status of BIOS. Also, there was 4 option ROMs appeared on Option ROM Configuration in BIOS. We enabled all option ROMs one by one. But server still not come up.

Also, I saw below text in BIOS starting phase:

1st screen:

1 Virtual Drive(s) found on the host adapter.
1 Virtual Drive(s) handled by BIOS

2nd screen

No Virtual drive(s) configured
No Hard Disks found. LSI Software RAID can not be Configured!

I checked raid configuration and drives by WebBIOS. And those were fine.
Do you have any idea for above message?
