SV RAID Manager functionality on ESXi hosts

Postby Serge.Pavlov » Wed Dec 18, 2013 16:54

Hi colleagues,
I have ServerView RAID Manager deployed (MS Server 2008 R2) and several ESXi 5.1 hosts registered within.
So, question is: how can I make drives in a RAID offline on ESXi hosts? In my menu (under Write access) this position is grayed out. Only available "Locate" and "Start copyback" positions.

Tech. details:
Server Primergy RX600 S6
Adapter FTS RAID Ctrl SAS 6G 5/6 512MB (D2616)
8 drives in RAID 1E0 - TOSHIBA MK3001GRRB (290 Gb)
OS: ESXi 5.1 built from Fujitsu Embedded Bundle
CIM Providers v.6.10.
SV RAID Manager v.5.7.8 on a virtual server MS 2008 R2

Thank you in advance,
Serge.

Hi Serge,

It seems that the RAID Manager does not really support Raid-1E0 (only monitor) for ESXi server until now. Otherwise use or check with Raid-1. But - in a short time - it is Christmas, then Eastern - the right time to wish something :)

Thank you Aura!
I've suspected something like that... =)
So, if we have a chance to get ESXi RAID support updated after Change Freeze period - it will be perfect.
Even if I'll oblige to use amCLI -e command to make a drive offline - this could already help a lot especially when I should do it remotely for a field engineer who came to replace it.

...just think:
In this case it makes sense to disable "Copyback on SMART error" option and then enable "Offline on SMART error" option to make faulty drive offline automatically?
If yes - which parameter is in use by "Offline on SMART error"? Will it look at value set by "Error count"?

Thanks again in advance,
Serge.

An update:
I've enabled "Offline on error" option.
"Error count" option has value (default) 10
Then when one of my adapters got a media error it made faulty drive offline at once!.. what a?.. It does not counted to 10.
It's a bug? =)

Finally the issue has been resolved in version 5.8 !
Congratulations Fujitsu!
