Hi, In your photograph there were no other SATA devices connected to the motherboard so I assume your optical drives are IDE. Have a look at the IDE configuration in the BIOS menu. What is the boot sequence set up (i.e which device is set as the first boot device) as changing this can cause your sta...

Hi, Yes there are problems with the forum, we are waiting for the FS technicians to post a thread asking us for advice  Ok regarding the bios, the machine will probably detect the drive anyway but just to be sure- Enter the bios using the 'del' key on start up Go to standard CMOS features by hi...

P.S. you stated that when you originaly re-connected the lead that you 'married it up with the second from the top'.
If you cannot find any markings on the board identifying SATA 0 then I would try the lead in the top socket, and autodetect the drive in the bios menu.
Let us know how you get on.

Ok first off these are SATA sockets not IDE.
They could be marked SATA 0, 1, 2, 3.
Have another quick look when you get time, the picture is a bit dodgy :)

Shut down the pc, remove the side and look closely at the IDE sockets (where the ribbon cables plug in) on the motherboard. Printed on the board itself next to the sockets will be Primary, Secondary and FDD (or something like that), your HDD ribbon cable should be plugged into the primary socket. Ba...

A hard drive problem could be an issue here but... What condition is your xp disk in ? Is it perfect and scratch free or has the dog played with it. Did you try a lens cleaner on your cd/dvd drive, I know the machine is only a year old but its worth a go. If its out of warranty (call them if it isnt...

Slightly baffled also.
A long shot, have you tested the memory on the machines that run slow ?
Although unlikely on two machines at the same time its worth eliminating as a cause at this point.

Firstly are all three computers of the same specification, system memory etc ? Do they all run the same type of application and has this slow down been progressive or fairly sudden ? I assume they are all connected to the internet so they are all protected by good security software. I also assume yo...

Hi, It sounds as though you could have missing or corrupt files in windows. It could also be the case that a problem may exist with the hard drive itself but that is difficult to establish at this point. Firstly use your xp disk and attempt to repair the xp installation, if this fails then the next ...

Just a thought but out of interest, did anyone upgrade their psu for one of a higher specification and if so did it help ?
Also, did anyone try replacing the thermal compound between the cpu and the heatsink ?

Hi bubbles, Firsly yes, you can get it replaced as it is still within a standard 12 month warranty period. You are within your rights to return it to the shop you bought it from for repair/replacement. Alternatively you could try using a lens cleaning disk on the drive first, in case the problem is ...
