Personally I think you can get a lot of great programs for free (eg AVG Free Virus scanner, Ad-aware, Zonealarm Personal, Winpatrol), so don't be too hasty shelling out your money! Anyway, if you want to generally check over your PC, then I'd recommend Windows Live Safety Scanner ( http://safety.liv...

Try looking at your system events log (Control Panel, Administrative tools, event viewer, then click on System), and see if there are any errors there.

Hope that helps

You can check the temperature by downloading Everest Home Edition from Lavalys (search on Google), and clicking on Sensor. It'll then tell you your temperatures. Bad idea to turn the fan off, it may overheat and will probably turn the PC off. If the temperature is high and it's worrying you then may...

DVD Rewriter Firmware?

Hey. I have a scaleo P with a NEC ND-4500A DVD Rewriter drive and it's been giving me a few problems reading DVDs. It apparently has Firmware 1.84. I can't find out anything about this firmware apart from a OEM version which is on a website for the ND-4551. Is the firmware I have updateable, and doe...

Hey to all of you. I suggest that you try looking at your system errors (go to start, control panel, administrative tools, event viewer, and click on system) and see if you get any errors under cdrom. I had paging fault errors with my Scaleo P, and sometimes my DVD-ROM drive would not show up at all...

Sounds like your password is wrong for whatever security you have on your wireless router. Or it might be MAC address filtering or something like that. I may (probably) be wrong.

Well when I got a new motherboard installed, when they were diagnosing the probmen over the phone they told me to disconnect the IDE cable from my DVD-RW drive. I asked them if this would void my warranty and they said no. So presumably, they're not going to know if i've opened my case since then no...

Boot up into safe mode by tapping F8 lots before you get to the Windows XP loading screen. Select Safe mode. Then reinstall drivers. Try using the driver disk, or drivers from the internet (you'll have to put them onto a memory stick or something from another computer as you can't access the interne...

Try holding the Function Key (might say Fn) and press F10, or the one with a picture of a TV screen on. That might work.

Have you tried hooking up your TV to the laptop first, then switching it on, and then seeing if the option comes up to force the TV to be found? The TV should be found automatically when you switch it on. If it doesn't, then you're pretty stuck, as the options for TV settings don't seem to be there ...

Just had a similar problem like this on my Scaleo P (PC). A good place to start would be to right click on My Computer, click on Manage, and then double click on Event Viewer down the left hand side. Click on System and then see what errors, if any, you are getting. I was getting cdrom controller er...

Sounds like the DVDRW drive isn't working properly if it can't copy the file, but I may be wrong. Have you tried formatting?

It's probably a controller problem on the motherboard, as it was with mine. Fujitsu-Siemens sent out an engineer to replace my motherboard, and now it works fine.

Hope that helps.

Lol thanks, but I think i'd rather send it back and let them fix it :) . Grr I've even disabled my CD-ROM drive in the BIOS and it's still showing up. Oh well, hopefully they should be able to fix it.

Thanks
Mike
