Re: Processor upgrade?

Look up the data sheet on google (try and find the latest), and check if there is only one processor listed or several. If there are several, it is quite a good indicator that the CPU sits in a socket.

In the E754 it comes in a socket, not soldered. This may be different in the E734.

Re: Fujitsu lifebook e744

I tried that on an E754, didn't work. It's not about how much the CPU can handle but how the mainboard handles the comms between the CPU and the RAM.

32GB RAM (2x16GB) didn't work at all, and the 16 GB is limited to 2x8GB. 1x16GB doesn't work at all.

Re: Upgrading a Lifebook AH531

@mitsos, the AH531 is slightly different, you might have better chances to get the information you are requesting on this thread:

Re: Processor upgrade?

Not quite sure if this helps, I did exactly that with an E754, upgraded to i7-quad-core, and 16 GB RAM, works like a charm. No BIOS-Update needed.

Re: Upgrading a Lifebook AH531

Christian, well done, good job! Did you replace the HDD with an SSD? I am not quite sure what slows down the USB, though. The i7-2640m should give it another push, although not as much as the RAM upgrade. The only thing I had to replace because it broke was the fan last year, that was out of balance...

Re: Display tausch Fujitsu A557

Man m...

Re: Upgrading a Lifebook AH531

Update: I replaced the CPU again, swapped the dual-core i7-2640M with a quad-core i7-2670QM. Again, this is outside the specs of the official data sheets, but I just did a quick test run: It works! So far so good. I know the i7-2670QM pulls 45W instead of the 35W of the i7-2640M, and I just noticed ...

Re: Upgrading a Lifebook AH531

Update on the screen upgrade (1366x768 to 1920x1080) of the AH531: I found one that looks compatible, bought a 40Pin 2Channel 6Bit cable (original cable is 1Channel), but the connector on the mainboard side didn't fit. Re-soldering the cables might be an option, but then again - not for me. I abando...

Re: Upgrading a Lifebook AH531

Hi Mumbo, memtest says they are 8192 MB DDR3-1600 Kingston 99U5428-018.A00LF . The other pair is labelled Hynix 8GB Rx8 PC3L - 12800S - 11 - 13 - F3 . And I tested a third brand in the 531 which was labelled 8GB DDR3 2Rx8 12800S 1600MHz Samsung . I wasn't actually worried when buying the RAM, just b...

Re: Upgrading a Lifebook AH531

@TimInCleveland, affirmative. I know the AH531 datasheets state a max RAM size of 4GB, and a max capacity of 8GB. According to the Intel datasheet, the processor supports 16GB of RAM. I did a bit of internet research, and found one single forum article on the net written by somebody who successfully...

Re: LIFEBOOK AH531

What's your new system?
My AH531 is running on a 256GB SSD and 16GB RAM, on Linux Mint 18.3. and I replaced the DVD drive for a 1TB HDD.
It's a real work horse.
Now I am trying to figure out if it's possible to replace its original display by a 1920x1080 display.
Just for kicks.

Re: LIFEBOOK AH531

ath_gr your initial post is nearly two years old and you probably have a new laptop anyway. Maybe this will help others, though: I have an AH531 connected via HDMI to an external Iiyama XB3070WQS (30"), on a 2560x1600 resolution. My current OS is Linux Mint 18.3. There are no additional drivers...

Re: Upgrading a Lifebook AH531

I wrote it elsewhere in this forum already, I upgraded my AH531/GFO to 16GB RAM (2x8GB) and a 256 GB SSD. That resulted in a significant boost of performance. Swapping the processor, you probably wouldn't notice any difference. [EDIT:] @stepat80, the Intel data sheet for your current CPU confirms it...
