Re: Motherboard failure

The original PC had XP Media Center, which I really like. I'm not really looking for replacement Media Center software. Sometime soon, I'll upgrade to Xp/Win 7, but I just hoped I'd get slightly more out of the Scaleo I bought. XP needs a DVD decoder to function correctly (Vista/Win 7 have it built ...

Re: Motherboard failure

Thanks for the reply. The F-S motherboard was dead, so I had had to replace it. I have all the drivers for the replacement motherboard. I was trying to play an MCE recorded file - dvr-ms. I got the sync problem from within the VLC application. However, there didn't seem to be any way of telling MCE ...

Re: Motherboard failure

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded the windows version and installed it. I was expecting to see a new decoder in the Windows XP decoder checkup facility - but nothing was listed. I ran the media player software and it played a file - but the sound was a long way out of sync with the video. I gu...

Re: Motherboard failure

OK, so the motherboard was dead. I contacted F-S parts and the replacement MB would have been £120 inc. VAT. Unfortunately, this didn't inc the processor (has mine died? how do I know?). The processor was another £280 (even the very helpful guy on the phone said 'silly money')! For £400, I could get...

Re: Motherboard failure

Many thanks for the reply. At its simplest, nothing happens. Not even the fan on the power supply turns. I have removed all the cards (display, TV tuner). I've unplugged all the extras (DVD drives, USB/card reader, disks, ram etc etc), so there is nothing connected to the mobo apart from the power s...

Re: pc keeps restarting

There is a chance that your processor is overheating? Scaleo Ps have/had a problem with dust getting trapped in the heatsink over the processor. Take the cover off and give the heatsink a good blow. You might find a small can of compressed air (air duster) does the job a bit better eg http://www.map...

Motherboard failure

I bought a F-S Scaleo P GA-81915PM MCE 2005 in December 2005, from PCWorld (UK). It has been an excellent PC, and we have made good use of the media center facilities. However, last week, the screen went black and the PC would show no sign of life. :( I hoped it was the power supply and so I put a n...

Re: [Pi] Problems

Does the serial number software they provide work on your PC - http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/KMT_ ... terne_Info (you can see it on the bottom right of this page - http://support.fujitsu-siemens.com/com/ ... hints.html )?

Re: Operating systems forum?

Yes, I find the fact that 'Software' or 'Operating systems' is missing a bit odd. I bought a Scaleo P with MCE 2005. The MCE 2005 is OEM - that is, the first line support should be provided by FS not Microsoft. The fact that there is no forum suggests that FS think the OEM software they provide is t...

Re: Diagnostics

I would certainly sing the praises of having some bootable memory diagnostics disks, like these (on your list):- http://www.memtest.org/ http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp I think it is also worth identifying the manufacturer of your hard disk and downloading their disk diagnostics. Given the p...

Re: [Pi] I destroyed my processor

The past experience seems to suggest that moving processors is likely to result in them being damaged. Even I can move hard disks without trashing them - I'd go for that.

Re: [P] Fails to boot up

Yes - the beeps would help - http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1223 Last time a similar thing happened to me, it was a RAM failure. I fixed it by removing one DIMM at a time, until the problem went away (and then replaced it). You may be able to boot off a diagnosis disk - in which ca...

Re: [P] Pc turning off and on by itself?

I'd test to see if the PC is overheating. Download some software to show you what temperature you are running at. I use Everest home edition - http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Info/Everest-Home-Edition.shtml Your BIOS has a setting to switch the PC off if it overheats - it is normally set ...

Just thought I'd mention that the solution to this problem has been found - http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showpost.php?p=59797&postcount=229 Basically, it was an incompatibility between the card and a USB driver MS patch that F-S had put on the installation disk. Remove that patch and the T50...
