We were able to resolve by popping open the hood, and resetting the JP1 switch to the "disable" setting. No more password prompts.

Unfortunately, I do not have physical access to the server. However, if what you suspect is true, "you (I) will find that password request there as well", then physical access will still present a challenge. I'm in the process of getting some onsite to take a look. If what you say turns ou...
