Re: Poll: Is your notebook running too hot?

I have Amilo D1845. Besides its hot CPU (in my system it always stay at 75C), the hard drive overheats too (around 50C, max 55C). This is unusual for a 2.5" 5400 RPM harddrive. I think the hdd overheat issue is due to bad case design and almost no hdd venting. Too bad. And it's noisy too. The f...

Re:

Also, you may try decreasing volume setting in the Windows mixer and in the laptop itself; it is known that amplifiers make distortions when operating at high volume levels The annoying low frequency noise i got was present even at a low software volume setting. I don't think audio hardware in a la...

Re:

I'm also trying to find some F-S service repair/replace, but not even the local dealers and authorized service parteners take my request seriously. Laptop industry is one of the baddest IT branches ever created. Their products are less stable than a desktop, the components are less reliable among al...

Re: Increasing RAM

Hi. I have the same notebook, Amilo D1845. Originaly, it had 512 DDR memory, in 2 modules, as 2x256 MB PC2700. A few months ago, I updated ram, to 2x512 MB DDR PC3200. I put a pair of identical Geil modules. The laptop runs fine, the memory bus is working at full speed, 400 MHz. PC3200 is the highes...

Re:

Hello again. Same here, no answer yet. I noticed the strange FSB behaviour is happening only when computer resumes from standby :!: :?: Even with PC2700 memory, the FSB is downclocking when resuming from standby. A restart fixes the problem. So, for me, PC3200 memory is working fine, at full speed :)

BAFTA!

Yeah, maybe... I think I should take it to a "doctor" :( I can't figure it out which component could be. An electronist maybe... Mersi!

Re:

I'm still suspecting that this D1845 BIOS doesn't support that 400MHz memory... I guess if it doesn't support 400MHz memory, it should downclock the memory freq to the highest usable level, as it happens on desktop computers. In this case, if memory freq is higher than maximum it supports, motherbo...

Hmm, I must say that I enjoyed the victory, but lost the war :( I mean, Mariner, you know after loading Optimal Defaults in BIOS, I reported that my CPU regained his bus speed, running at 533 MHz. After first restart, the bus dropped back at 342 MHz :?: Dont know why, but it happend. And it happens ...

Re:

I always wanted to buy a 7200 RPM 2.5" hdd, but after seeing the new drive from Seagate, the 5400.3 series (5400 RPM), with perpendicular recording, the tests where it surclassed all the competitors, even very tight approach to 7200 RPM mobile drives, i decided to change my mind and give it a t...
