Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - random reboots with 4 GB RAM!

I strongly recommend against flashing from within Windows 64bit as you're still running 1.09C which is unstable. Your best course of action is to wait and hope Fujitsu post the bootable CD for the flash. If your machine reboots while flashing, it will almost certainly kill it and you'll have to send...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - random reboots with 4 GB RAM!

Fantastic! Thanks for testing oversized.

Fujitsu, I dunno if this was an intended fix, or whether it was simply a fix pulled in from the latest code from Phoenix, but thank you ^^

Hopefully the issues with Windows 64bit are gone too, I may give it a test in the future.

All the best everyone ^^

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - random reboots with 4 GB RAM!

I never thought I'd see the day.... Fujitsu, I take back all the bad things I said ^u^ I just grabbed the gentoo-minimal-amd64 ISO which I knew caused the reboot when booting. This is the same ISO I used when I figured out the reboot was happening when loading the ACPI thermal module. My Pi3525 was ...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - constant restarting!

Merry Christmas all ^^ My limited testing with Ubuntu 9.10 64bit seemed stable, but I didn't find time to use it for extended periods of time, so it's entirely possible it still crashes with extended use. However, yesterday I stumbled upon something very interesting... The default 32bit Vista and Wi...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - constant restarting!

Supertorpe, I had installed Ubuntu 9.10 x86_64 so that I could test a custom DSDT, but I never got that far. Every time I've tried a 64 bit OS on the Pi3525 it's never even got to a login prompt before rebooting, hence why I was so surprised that Ubuntu booted straight to the desktop. It seems you h...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - constant restarting!

Well, I've successfully installed and updated the x86_64 edition of Ubuntu 9.10. Everything seems stable (I'm posting this from it), but I haven't done any extensive testing as it's nearly 4am. Below is the full output of dmesg, sans MAC addresses and such. Tomorrow I may run Prime95 on the machine,...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - constant restarting!

Hello again, Sorry for not getting back sooner, I've been busy. I have opened another line of research related to the ACPI tables. See how to fix commons ACPI problems (http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=122145). I have dissasembled and recompiled DSDT with the following results: *snip* What v...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - constant restarting!

Hello again all, Thanks for the PM Supertorpe, I'm hoping I can clarify a few things for you. Figured I'd do it in the thread rather than via PM, so it's public. The reason mem=4096m works is because it restricts the entire memory map to 4GB. On the Pi3525 and indeed in general, any memory over 3GB ...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - constant restarting!

Neat updated machine, but I find anything over 15.4" to cumbersome to be called "mobile". I bought my Pi 3525 fully knowing about the 64bit issue. Under Linux, using a BIGMEM64G kernel there really isn't much point to running 64bit anyway. I can access all my RAM and don't have to wor...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - constant restarting!

Oh, now I see... thanks! So we can be assured that even M$ states PAE is available in certain systems, it is not possible? M$ When we're talking about Linux, I've read some users reported 8 GB of RAM on 32 bit Debian. Perhaps they got it with PAE kernel-enabled (BIGMEM64G)? What Linux dis...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - constant restarting!

Oversized, the 4 gigabyte tuning has nothing to do with how much RAM an operating system can access. It's a method of letting 32bit applications access 3GB of memory instead of the usual 2GB which is the default for all Microsoft's consumer OS's. Enabling PAE to access the full 4GB of RAM will only ...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - constant restarting!

The issue isn't with the memory controller hardware. The chipset is a just a standard Intel GM45, if the flaw was in the chipset it would affect all laptops, from all manufacturers, using the GM45, not just the Pi series from FSC. The real problem lies with the BIOS, which means it can be fixed with...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - constant restarting!

Hello again, As far as I'm aware, the "Physical Address Extension" shown in the properties of "My Computer" doesn't actually indicate that PAE is enabled. Last time I enabled PAE in Windows XP it involved adding /PAE to the boot option. Microsoft used to state in their knowledge ...

Re: [Pi 3525] 64bit OS problems - constant restarting!

Another little update. I spoke with Fujitsu Siemens support who were very insistent that their consumer products aren't meant to run 64bit operating systems. They're simply not tested or validated with 64bit software, and Fujitsu don't provide 64bit drivers either. They suggested upgrading to the la...
