When you upgraded the CPU you upgraded the psu as well or you left the original one?

Is your memory 667Mz? If yes try to update the BIOS on the latest version.

So before you installed the XP did you format the HDD? The Vista Basic is just the same 32-bit operating system as the XP so the drivers from the Vista basic driver disc is OK. Ithink If this happening only a few times/month there is no problem with the hardware.Try to update the graphics driver on the latest version,but uninstall the old driver by using driver removal software in safe mode.

The modem is not build into the laptop.You can buy modem and use to your dial-up connction but the laptop got only wireless and LAN interface.So is much easyer to buy a wireless router with bild in modem...
