It takes about 5 seconds to redraw London on my N560 too. I didn't bother to take any special precautions (I didn't do a soft reset, left the processor set to Automatic mode, and had a couple of other programs lurking in the background). My map data is stored on a 1GB Sandisk SD card. For comparison...

I've used the optional serial cable you can buy from Fujitsu - it plugs straight into the N560 and has a 9-way D-type connector on the other end to plug into a PC or other equipment.

On my UK N560 the pound sign appears when you click the "au" key (in the bottom left corner, next to the Ctl key). The keyboard then changes to display a load of foreign characters, with the pound sign appearing in the position normally occupied by the "5" key.
