The problem is that after some time, the I/O to the LUNs on the box becomes slow. This happens faster if the clients do much I/O to the LUNs. To resolve this, the RAID controller in the SX88 needs to be restarted. Then the I/O performance is normal again, but after some time, it slows down again. To me, this sounds like a software problem in the SX88 RAID controller firmware.
The thing is, we use the LUNs with x86 servers from HP (DL 360 G5 with Qlogic HBAs running a pretty recent firmware) and Solaris 10 (for x64 ie 64-bit kernel) with the latest patches. We use the native QLC driver which is bundled with the OS. Running Solaris to access the LUNs is apparently not supported, even though I doubt this should be the cause of the I/O slowdown.
What I would like to know if anyone has seen this problem, and if they have found any cause/solution for it. As my experience with getting support on deeply technical issues like this from Fujitsu support has been less than satisfactory, I'm trying this method instead to see if we can come up with any solution. If we don't, I think we might have to reuse the disks in a similar solution from another vendor. But either way, any information or advice on this issue is highly appreciated!
